Sundays @ Polished.

Sunday is traditionally a day of rest and relaxation – but often in this busy world it’s also a day that we ladies like to pamper ourselves (for a limited time only – let’s face it, you don’t want it taking too much of the final moments of your weekend!). Then why is it often so hard to find a beautician open? We wanted to remind you our beloved Polished Princesses that Polished is open 7 days a week, and on Sundays, it’s our pleasure to polish you in the timely fashion you are accustomed to.

So if you have a spare hour, why not pop in for an overhaul?

You can have: A blow-dry, mini facial, spray tan & shape & shine in 60 minutes flat.

Did someone say hallelujah?

This week on The Beauty Files, we thought we’d share an article on CND Shellac that’s available in store at Polished.

Basically, for those who haven’t tried it yet, yes it’s a little more expensive than your average manicure… but it lasts for 2 weeks, and doesn’t chip! Read more about it below.

What is it?

The most talked-about innovation in the nail industry in years, CND Shellac is a fusion of nail enamel and gel. The result? A thin, smudge-proof nail coating with the longevity of a gel and zero dry-time, available in 30 shades.

What is the process?

A base coat, two coats of colour and a top coat are applied like a normal manicure. In between each coat, you slide your hand (or foot) under a UV lamp for the polish to “cure” for 10 seconds after the base coat and two minutes after each subsequent coat. You can then rustle around in your bag to get your wallet and keys and still have perfect nails. No kidding.

Who is it good for?

Anyone who is tired of investing dollars and time in a manicure and then not even making it out the salon door without a scuff. My manicure was subjected to all manner of domestic rigour and lasted with a high-shine, dint-free finish for nearly two weeks. Consider a pedicure if you’re planning a holiday that involves sand and surf – it will resist the elements longer. It also helps to strengthen weak nails.

How do you get it off?

Salon removal using Shellac Remover Wraps is recommended. It takes 10 minutes and there’s no soaking, drilling or filing involved. For a DIY version, apply acetone-soaked cotton balls to nails and wrap in foil for 10 minutes.

How much does it cost?

About $30-$40 on top of your regular manicure. Removal is about $20.

Where to find it?

At Polished.

How do you keep yourself looking fresh in the middle of the festive season? Here are our tips and tricks!

Ah, the pre-Christmas period or “party season” as it’s often called, is upon us once more. There is no doubt that it’s an amazing time of year, because you can practically feel the fun that is well and truly in the air. However, there is also another factor that comes strutting along with it…

Fatigue.

So just how do you keep yourself looking fresh in the middle of late nights, family functions, shopping and let’s be honest… alcohol (late nights and parties often include champagne).

Facials: Keeping your skin hydrated is key. Facials are quite simply a great way to do it. The A-Zyme Peel or the Vitamin 30 are, for example, great ways to have plump, hydrated looking skin… when the party went on too long.

Water: It’s free, and it’s a girl’s best friend when it comes to looking great.

Shellac: Again, it’s the wonder nail treatment that keeps your nails “chip” free for up to three weeks, so you can focus on other things.

Spray tans: When all else fails, and you have dark-circles. a spray tan is a great way to cheat a healthy glow.

Sleep: Last, but certainly not least, making sure the party doesn’t go on too long is always the best way to look “fresh” quite literally…

But quite often… fun just seems to get in the way.

Stay Polished. xx

If you want hydrated skin with a healthy glow and even texture, then the treatment that really gives telltale results is the Vitamin Infusion 30 we have recently introduced at Polished. Using an Ultrasonophoresis machine, it’s a fast-acting treatment technique that employs low-frequency ultrasonic vibrations to infuse our two antioxidant-powerhouses, vitamins A and C. After the 45-minute treatment, you can visibly see the skin blooming with a healthy hydrated glow. It’s especially good if your skin has been feeling a little blotchy or dry coming out of winter. For those people who are looking for that perfect “beach ready” glow to be revealed through their skin, then it’s definitely worth trying this award winning technology for plump, hydrated skin.

How do you look polished in the middle of party season with limited time, and without putting your budget into over-drive? Beauty Mapping!

The weather is getting warmer, diaries are getting busier, phones are running off the hook, and of course there is a certain ‘pressure to feel polished’ in the air that says one thing, and one thing only:

“It’s almost party season”.

So instead of looking “party-ready’ to feel good, we actually need to look polished because there is something on, every five minutes.

Yes, the festive season is almost upon us, which also means we’ve started shedding our old winter layers for party frocks and bikinis, and revealing our feet in gorgeous sandals for the warmer months.

But how do you keep yourself feeling polished in the middle of party season with limited time, and without putting your budget into over-drive?

Don’t stay too long at the party: Our first tip is this: Don’t let it get on top of you! You know you need waxing, nails and spray tans, so don’t go without all of them for an extended period of time and then get hit with needing every treatment at the one time.

Plan: One of the best beauty tips we could give you is mapping out your beauty plan around the functions that you have coming up.

Beauty Mapping: If you know in your diary where certain events are being held, the type of outfit you’ll be wearing and the time of day it is on – you can easily track which treatments are a “must have” and what you can save for prime polished occasions.

It’s also great to have your appointments work for you.

For example, you know when you need a facial or a shape and shine, you don’t get caught having to take any appointment that comes up – because you’ll have the prime polish up appointments to suit you. Feeling rushed can be such a party pooper.

Until next week…

Stay Polished. xxPBB

At Polished, we love getting into the new things – that’s why we are keen to encourage new clients to have a go at Pilates. It’s all well and good to look good, but feeling good really puts that strut in your step, especially with summer almost here.

It’s no marketing ploy to say Pilates does for the tummy what Christian Louboutins do for the calf. It’s the stuff ballerinas are made of, and what makes the rest of us feel strong and slimmer than anything else (if you stick to it).

If you’ve been meaning to try it and haven’t had a chance, why don’t you jump on our 10-Day Pilates challenge? For new clients, you can go as much as you like for $30 and our classes are small (which means you get personalised attention. No sweating in a downward dog position while a man on a microphone yells at you to “breathe”.

We set you the challenge. And during the week we will be posting tips and tricks on our blog – so if you can’t make it, you can take some tips and try them at home.

We also want to know what you like to read. So if there is something you’d like info on drop us a line.

Wanting a soothing product to use on sensitive areas? Read our review on Dr Roebuck's product, 'Bubs & Bits.'

What is it? For more than 30 years, Dr Roebuck’s has been delivering an effective and safe skin care products for adults and children with sensitive skin. It’s now available in Australia. It combines an old English dermatological formula mixed in with clinical experience of what ingredients help sooth, repair and rehydrate warn out, or irritated skin.

Wow factor? All of their products are paraben-free, and use only the best ingredients to ensure the skin is replenished without irritation. Due to its sensitive nature, it’s perfect after waxing care, (kissing – pash-rash be gone!) sunburn, or just to be used on the face and lips as part of your daily beauty routine.

Stand out Product: Bubs & Bits

Let’s be honest; after a Brazilian, you don’t have the hair down there to protect your supple skin, which means irritation can occur when you put on your gorgeous lace knickers. Which kind of defeats the point!

Bubs & Bits soon takes care of this problem, as it’s perfect for use post-waxing to sooth those most sensitive bits. It also rehydrates and fends off dreaded ingrown hairs.

It’s also an amazing alternative for nappy rash or dry skin – and gives your child’s skin respite from irritation but still uses only the most soothing of ingredients – making it much more effective than those filled with harsh chemicals.

In fact, Bubs & Bits gives you a solution to be used on all your most precious bits to make sure they stay in tip-top condition. Say no more…

Bubs & Bits and the entire range are available in Polished now.

How do you put the spring back in your step when it comes to your beauty routine? We thought long and hard to bring you our top 5 tips. Here they are...

With summer only moments away, sometimes it can seem a little overwhelming finding the time to get a treatment.

So just how do you put the spring in your step when it comes to your beauty routine? We thought long and hard to bring you these 5 tips. They will keep you in good stead.

1: Know what works for you

When it comes to beauty, trends might come and go, but knowing what works for your body, skin, or even nail colour is the way to keep on top of your game. While we are not advising getting stuck in a rut and sporting the same look you did in the 1980s, if you know that a spray-tan and a certain style of blow-dry makes you feel a million bucks. Then go for it!

2: Spray doesn’t bake: It’s no secret, but the best part of spray-tans is that they stop you from baring your precious skin to the sun! No amount of facials will do you the same favour as protecting your skin from the harsh rays required to achieve a natural tan.

3: Enjoy yourself: At Polished, one of the best parts is watching the fun people have while they are being pampered. Whether it’s relaxing with a cup of tea and a magazine, or chatting up a storm with our team, there is a lot of fun to be had when you are enjoying yourself.

4: Plan: The party season is crazy. To ease the tension that can come from doing admin with a hangover, plan your looks and treatments ahead of time. It might sound pedantic but it makes a big difference knowing it’s all set out. Think of it this way – It beats having hairy legs before the office pool-party….

5: Chipped Nails are a no-no! It doesn’t matter who you are – no one looks good with chipped nails. If you know you are busy, don’t go for a “red” or another colour that will make you look like Mrs. Claus gone wrong as it chips off. All women need to have a “shape & shine” as badly kept nails are a big no-no!
